Firestorm Rachel Caine Books

I wholeheartedly agree with many of the other reviewers here. I am a long time fan of this author and series and eagerly awaited the release of this book. For those other faithful readers out there, don't plan on a fun frivolous read, this is truly exhausting work, worth reading in order to follow the series, but hard going. In getting involved with the characters throughout the series, you really identify and in this book, you're on the edge the whole time, there is no relief, no resolution, I finished this book and was on the edge of my seat and had been stressed out the whole time! Even the end didn't have a satisfactory resolution, its a lead into the next book, but not a fun one. It makes me hesitant to even purchase the next one like I've done all the others. When I read paranormal fiction its truly a form of escapism, to let my mind go and generally have if not a happy ending, some kind of satisfactory resolution. -uh uh, not happening in this one. - i've ordered books from Amazon for years and always read other's review. This is the very first time I've felt compelled to write one myself. If you're purchasing this book for a fun read, I'd reccomend a different book. If you're reading this to continue the series, go for it, but be prepared for a bumpy ride.

Firestorm Rachel Caine Books Reviews

Probably should not read, one after the other.
I've enjoyed this entire series. It has such an interesting premise for the paranormal genre. Instead of vampires and werewolves, this series features humans who can affect the natural elements and the jinni who work with them. The series should be read in order from the beginning. It's cohesive and so entertaining.
I certainly understand others low ratings of this tome. Understand yet disagree. After all, while I really liked this book I hated the cliff-hanger ending. That doesn't take away from the fact that it's very well written and vastly entertaining, however. Hopefully the sequel, Thin Air, will wrap things up more satisfactorily. Just 'cuz I don't like what happens to most of the characters doesn't mean that I can't like the book. It's a heck of a thrill ride.

The djinn have turned on the Wardens, Demon Marks and disasters run wild, and Mother Nature is waking up mad... If our savvy heroine doesn't find a way to put things right the human race is toast. That's quite some plot. As things sort out we get interesting insight into what makes Eamon, Ashan, and the Demon Marks tick, find out about the powerful Oracles, and meet Imara, Joanne and David's part djinn daughter. They are minor characters, but I really loved the Warden pilots; exceptionally well done.

The pacing, as others have pointed out, is break-neck, but it worked well for me, pulling me through the story at hyper speed. I had a very hard time putting it down. Since only a couple new characters are introduced we don't need to waste a lot of pages on developing anyone more thoroughly.

Caine's dry wit is back in full form too. Here's a quick example

"I spent some time in lockup lying on a clean hospital bed, humming popular songs, and trying to imagine what the new Wardens seal should look like. I was currently going with a shiny circular motif, with the new motto of We're So Screwed running around the outer edge, featuring a graphic of a nuclear mushroom cloud in the center. A gold seal probably. Gold goes with everything, even an apocalypse."

I really do love this stuff!

Urban fantasy at its best, the Weather Warden series ranks amongst my all time favorites. This book is no exception. Nicely done!

Lawrence Kane
Author of Blinded by the Night, among other titles
The series is going down hill, the reason, too much is happening and it is happening too much. Breathe room to really feel it is what is missing. Slow down, have some more dialogue. The ending of this book was really good, but i can tell book 6 is going to be just as fast. Yes, I will continue this series, bc i still love it even if I am mad at it.
Consistent and driven, a good book; it appears that Ms. Caine is beginning to deepen the characters while simplifying their relationships, as well as focusing to a greater degree on the struggle without granting sudden god-like powers to the protagonists.

The reintroduction of certain characters in an ambiguious way lends to the charm of this particular story, and clearly is an indication of returning elements as the plot unfolds in the next books.

A good read, and I'll be continuing to follow this series!
Overall, this is a terrific book.

Firestorm features a kicking final 1/3, and an absorbing beginning 1/3. You just have to force yourself through the middle 100 pages, and if you're able to do that, you'll be glad you stuck with what is easily the least enjoyable of the Weather Warden series. There is action aplenty, magic everywhere, and a middling amount of sex in the pages. What isn't here as much is the humor, and there's way too much introspection in the middle third. But once you get to the last 100 pages, you're in for a treat.

Recommended, but not as highly as the previous four entries.
