I love the Goddess Girls series! I think this is fantastic series that not only teaches grade school and middle grader readers about Greek Mythology with a fun twist, but the series is a fun, engaging read set at their level. Joan and Suzanne have done a wonderful job with not only making the Greek Gods and Goddess relatable, but they've made them so readers get to see them in similar situations they may find themselves in. I also like the fact that each book teaches a message.

Athena The Wise is a fun character. Being the daughter of the school's principal is hard enough, but it's even harder when your dad is Zeus and he wants you to befriend the new student, Hercules. Things don't turn out quite the way Athena planned when she tries to help Hercules pass the 12 tests her father gave him in order to become a god and remain at the academy.

What was so enjoyable about Athena and Hercules is not only watching their relationship bloom, but watching their friendship develop and learning more about themselves in the process of trying to complete the 12 tasks. Joan and Suzanne throw in a wonderful twist at the end that has made me realize I might have been a bad judge of character with Zeus. This is a wonderful, clean cut series about friendship, and seeing how each of the partners/couples first met. I love the setting, the academy and getting to see how all the Gods and Goddess interact. I highly recommend Athena The Wise and the Goddess Girls series.

I liked it, though I have to say that I liked the first four better. I wish that it mentioned Persephone more, since she's my favorite, but oh well.
I chose this rating for this book because it shows that even if you're wise you still can have a temper tantrum. It also tells you that you are dependable and can do a lot of things even if your a straight A student.
Can't go wrong selecting books that my granddaughter likes. I personally have not read them but their Mom says they are good books for young girls
I bought 9 of these books, as my 3rd grader got a few from the school library first and loved them - read them 2-3 times! Plus, they have high point level on AR, so even better! I definitely recommend the collection!
If you are looking for entertainment, my daughters loved them. If you are looking for accurate Greek mythology, my son was quite appalled. My eight-year-old is a reluctant reader, but she could not put these down and begged for the entire series.
My sixth grade daughter devours this book series! She read this one in an afternoon! Love that she is picking up some useful info for our ancient Greece studies- I say "some," because while the vocabulary is helpful, the stories are not historically accurate. However, it is fun for her and we will cover the real gods, goddesses and events in her schoolwork.
My 3rd grade daughter loves this series of books, and Athena the Wise is one of her favorites. When I was a child, I read the actual myths associated with Greek mythology. I get that times change so I'm fine with my daughter being introduced to these iconic literary figures in this more youth oriented format. Hopefully she'll read the original literature at some point, but at least this gives her a working knowledge of Greek mythos. She knows the names of the various gods and goddesses, and can recite their various attributes. I've skimmed through a few of the books and the writing is engaging, as is evidenced by her love of the series. She will be taking on the role of Athena in school play and I have no doubt that this book is in some part responsible for her choice of characters. )

If your child is just being introduced to this series, I'd recommend starting with the first book and moving forward from there. This series is gear towards girls, but I don't see why boys wouldn't enjoy it as well.
