Tessa Donovan is the owner of a bar in a small town called Devil's Bend. She is a woman who has checkered past and is now working hard to put her time working as a bartender.
Cooper Krenshaw is a famous country singer that has found his way into Devil's Bend. He is friends with Tessa's older brother, Adam. Cooper is a bit tired and disillusioned from his fame as a country singer and is interested in hanging out in the small bar and singer there to get back to small town roots and singer for smaller crowds.
Okay - so far so good. Tessa immediately catches Cooper's attention. She is pretty, independent, strong and fiesty. Cooper is talented, sexy and a generally good guy.
This book focuses mainly on these two and how their relationship grows and they trust each other and fall in love.
I really wanted to love this book - but just couldn't understand why their 'secrets' were really that big of a deal.
I couldn't stand how Cooper had to keep Tessa from running away. She would try to get up and leave Cooper every time something got uncomfortable for her.
She is a strong woman. She breaks up fights. She stands up to her brothers.
Yet - she constantly is attempting to run away from Cooper. It's annoying.
For example, they are chatting about ideas for the farm and Tessa mentions a petting zoo. Cooper laughs. She gets super pissy and upset. Are you kidding me? He wasn't cruel about it. She is supposed to be a strong person. Why does she get so upset so easily?
After awhile, I started to wonder what exactly Cooper saw in Tessa. Seems like he deserves someone more sassy, strong, independent and secure. She got a bit wimpy.
Towards the end she started to develop more of a spine. But it was too late for her to redeem herself in my eyes.
Also, Cooper and Tessa act like that have MAJOR horrible bad things in their past..I was gearing up for something bad. But it was pretty minimal. Nothing huge.
It was a fizzle.
Some things just didn't make sense. There is a HUGE deal with something Adam decides to do. Then, we don't hear from him at all throughout the book. He appears at the end for a second, but it's obvious that it's a set up for another book.
I liked Izzy a lot (Tessa's crazy friend). She seemed to stay true to her character. Crazy. Says what she wants to and doesn't care. Liked her a lot.
Yes - there were a few steamy sex scenes. But it wasn't enough to make me feel like these two characters really bonded with each other.
Cooper can get amazing sex at any time. What made it special with Tessa? Yeah, she rejected him at first. But is it just the chase. She didn't hold out for very long....For such a long book - I didn't feel the connection there.
Overall it was okay to read.
Has a happy ending.
No cliffhanger.
I would love to know more about the brothers. They seemed to have potential to be more interesting than Tessa.
Just really don't like characters that run away from difficult situations. Talk it out! Fight it out. But the passive, feel sorry for myself, running away without letting the other person explain just makes me nutty. She didn't successfully run away from Cooper b/c he kept grabbing her arm or telling her to 'stay'. Just the fact that he had to keep doing that was annoying...
The plot twists were not very interesting nor gripping. Just seemed contrived to me.
Not super interesting.

Chasing Dreams A Devil Bend Novel Volume 1 Nicole Edwards 9781939786135 Books Reviews
I'm a huge fan of Nicole's, so I couldn't put off checking out her new series, Devil's Bend, for very long. And I loved it just like I have all her others. Although it isn't riddled with kinky sex clubs and menages, it's still a hot, sexy love story.
Tessa is a small town, Texas girl who's been to Hell and back more times than she can count in her life. It's no wonder she tries to keep herself closed off and aloof, avoiding relationships and love at all costs.
Cooper, a gorgeous country music star from Nashville, is searching for something; he just isn't sure what. After he finds himself in Texas, reconnecting with an old friend (who just happens to be Tessa's brother), he starts to figure out what that something is.
Sparks fly between Tessa and Cooper immediately, and they can't fight their connection for long. But as always, life and the past have a tendency of getting in the way. Can Tessa leave her past behind her and allow herself to give to her hearts desire to love Cooper? Will Cooper's celebrity status prove to be more than Tessa can handle?
Well, I can't give you all the answers, now can I? You'll have to read the book to find out, and you won't be disappointed.
From a critical standpoint, I did notice there were a few more grammatical/punctuation errors than I normally see in her books, but they were still minimal. They definitely weren't significant enough to take away from the story or make reading it less enjoyable.
As always, I look forward to what Nicole cooks up for the next book in this series. Maybe a story about Cooper's best friend, Dalton (another country music sensation)? Or maybe some love for one of Tessa's two brothers? We'll have to wait and see, but I bet it'll be as hot as a Texas summer, just like her other books.
Chasing Dreams was the first book in Nicole Edwards’ Devil’s Bend series. I’ve already read the Walker Brothers series, Alluring Indulgence, which highlights Tessa’s cousins so it was time I backed up and tackled this series as well.
Tessa Donovan was the owner of the Rusty Nail bar. She was also a young widow who guarded her heart at all cost. She was strong, sassy and beautiful.
Cooper Crenshaw was a famous country music star that was taking a break from the spotlight. He landed in Devil’s Bend, TX, the home of an old college friend, who also happened to be the brother to Tessa.
Edwards took us on a journey involving country music, living in the spotlight, experiencing loss, chasing dreams and taking risks. It was well written, well developed and a fairly quick read. Additionally Edwards included a fantastic supporting cast further adding depth and dimension to the storyline.
I liked the story and both of the characters but for some reason I didn’t quite connect with them. I bought into Tessa’s feistiness but not so much her hesitation to Cooper. She seemed a little too cold at times and although I liked the story, I never really gelled with her. It was a good read, so it was probably just my timing and preference at the moment.
Edwards also successfully set the stage for the series for promising stories for Tessa’s brothers, Adam and Jack, as well as Cooper’s friend and fellow country star, Dalton. Next up is Dalton in Vanishing Dreams and I can’t wait.
